SO2 emission highlights
Sulphur dioxide enters the atmosphere as a results of both natural phenomena and anthropogenic activities, such as fossil fuel combustion, oxidation of organic materials in soils, volcanic eruptions and biomass burning. These pages presents highlights of SO2 emissions related to volcanic eruptions and anthropogenic activities.
Volcanic SO2 emissions
- Eruption of the Eyjafjöll volcano on Iceland -- April 2010
- Eruption of the Kasatochi volcano on the Aleutian Islands -- August 2008
