Info Support to Aviation Control Service (SACS): development and Users consultation

Initiated within the GSE-PROMOTE programme of the European Space Agency, the Support to Aviation Control Service is an international collaborative project that proposes satellite-based volcanic gas and ash detection services. Initially developed using near-real time SO2 data from SCIAMACHY onboard of ENVISAT, the system has been recently extended with data from a number of complementary sensors operating in the UV-visible (SCIAMACHY, GOME-2 and OMI) and thermal infrared (IASI and AIRS) spectral regions.

With this note, we would like to inform you that:

  1. The data from all these sensors are now available on the SACS system in near-real time (1-3 hours after measurement), at a global scale.

  2. We have setting up a completely new notification mechanism that combines and integrates all (complementary) SO2 data products from the different sensors into a single optimised system.

Please find below a short document providing information on the SACS system, its current features, and what are our plans to improve them in the near future. We would like to invite you to give your feedback on the future system by contacting the project manager (theys@aeronomie.be). Any suggestion or remark is important for us as it will help us to improve the service, in line with your needs.

Thank you very much in advance for your feedback,

   The SACS team.
